A Superb IR Anthology

"Contending Theories of International Relations" is an excellent book. It reads more like an anthology than a textbook, but that can be viewed as one of the nice things about it. I very much like the organization of this book. I used it in my international relations courses. This is a wonderful summary of theoretical thought about international politics

Excellent-a classic book

I read this book 10 years ago while studying my Masters deggree in The Netherlands. I found it very interesting and really supportive for my thesis. all sudents of IR should have it. Unfortunatelly, I did not not buy it at that time. Currently I work in the Chile s Agency of International Cooperation and I am a lecturer of Intenational Relations in various Universities. I would like to make contacts with those people interested in development aid. My name is Rafael Sabat.

Sometimes the chapters are a bit long and repeating itself but that could help some students to better comprehend complex theories and philosophical viewpoints.

Exclusive Magical Secrets was originally published by The Magician Ltd as a limited edition of 1000 in 1912. It was bound with a lock on the cover and became known as "The Locked Book of Magical Secrets". The author, Will Goldston, was born in 1878 in Liverpool and first went on stage under the name Carl Devo. He later became the manager/buyer of Gamage's Theatrical and Entertainment Department. Goldston was an early member of the Magic Circle but resigned and formed his own society - The Magicians' Club of London with Harry Houdini as President, a post he held until his death. He set up in business as William Goldston Ltd in Aladdin House near Leicester Square in London where he sold "magic tricks". The business was later bought by Davenports, the famous London magic shop. He edited a number of publications: Magician Annual (1907-1912), Magician Monthly (1904-1913), Magazine of Magic (1914-1930) and Golston's Magical Quarterly (1934-1940). If he had been alive today it is likely that Will Goldston would have been one of the most famous people in the world of magic. As it is his legacy stands, not only in his writings but also in the inspiration he gave to future generations of magicians. Like many other books of this era some of the tricks described use substances and methods that would be considered dangerous today and are most likely unobtainable. However, as magicians are always re-inventing old tricks in many cases there are simple substitutes. You are warned, however, not to take any risks. As with other offerings in The Golden Age of Magic series this volume is not a straightforward reproduction of the original text. There are a number of reasons for this. The main one, as with almost all early books, is that the typefaces used frequently make reading a chore rather than a pleasure. There is also the fact that the original printings were poorly edited, resulting in spelling errors and sometimes mistakes which completely alter the meaning of the text. Wherever possible we have endeavored to reproduce illustrations from the original to the highest possible standard and, in many cases, have been able to improve them. However, you should be aware that some illustrations in the original books were, themselves, copied from documents that were then many years old and some reproductions may not be to present day standards. However, we have taken the liberty of producing the book to make it both accurate and accessible. We would hope that, were the author alive today, he would very much approve of this edition.

The submachine gun (SMG) came to be the embodiment of the Soviet fighting spirit during World War II. From 1943 the Red Army's preference for close-quarters combat resulted in entire infantry units being equipped with nothing but SMGs. By deploying multiple SMG-armed companies and battalions, the Red Army was able to develop ferocious firepower in urban warfare and position assaults, the soldiers keeping within the SMG's effective range of about 150m to nullify the German skills in armoured and manoeuvre warfare, artillery support and aerial bombardment.

Three particular designs dominated the war. First came the PPD-40, a weapon initially designed in the 1930s but rationalized for more efficient production in 1940. This 7.62mm firearm, with a cyclic rate of 800rpm, was in production until 1941, when it was replaced by the defining Soviet SMG of the war - the PPSh-41. Here was a weapon perfectly suited to wartime conditions. It was rugged, cheap to produce, simple to operate and delivered devastating close-quarters firepower. The story of the Soviet wartime SMG is completed by the PPS, designed for even cheaper and faster production, first put into small-scale production inside the besieged city of Leningrad in 1942. This remarkable weapon never replaced the PPSh-41, however, possibly as much because of political as production considerations. Both the PPSh-41 and PPS went on to post-war service with various communist states, seeing combat in the Korean War, the Indochina and Vietnam Wars and various colonial insurgencies in Africa and Asia.

Excellent account of the development of Soviet submachine guns of WW II. The book not only describes the development and tactical uses of the weapons, but it also compares them to the principal German weapons that were used against them in the multitude of infantry attacks in the war. It then continues to describe their use in foreign (mostly Soviet-aligned) armies after World War II.

I really like these books. In my opinion, they are a great value for the money. they are an overview of the guns and as such is exactly what I want - an overview. If you want a detailed, in depth study, don't buy these books. If you want to know the basics with some breakdowns and good photos, you will be very pleased for the money.

I loved the scenes hero saves heroine. He was in love and he would do anything to claim her.

I love this read!!!! I love a good Regency Romance and Ms. Beaton wrote a good one in this read. (I only recommend if you understand the period of when it was written as it explains why characters acted certain way.) The hero is a strong alpha male that dresses as a dandy. So heroine doesn't take him seriously at first. Hero doesn't let that stop him, he fall instantly for heroine and is hot in pursuit.

'Silken Bonds' is part 2 of a series but can be read stand alone. Hero falls instantly for the heroine but her guardian has taught her that being with a man is weakness. So hero pulls all the stops to court her. He will bribe staff, ask former interest to play act a role to get close to the family, he buys house next door to her, he watches/stalks her, he finds out what she likes and does what he needs to do to keep her interested in seeing him, he will beg, he will try seduce, he will be her knight in shinning armor, and he will keep saving her countless times form dangers so he can finally claim her as his own.

The book has several twist and turns. This includes some scary situations that require he to save heroine several times, because her family has jewels would-be thiefs want. I loved these scenes, especially the final scene. He may look like a dandy but he fought like a man!!! He is older and more experienced. Heroine is naïve and innocent, but was raised to think like a man. So hero has to be creative to try to win her over, but he is really all for equal rights and proves to her that he wants her as his equal!!!

The other subplot is they are trying to find out who her biological parents are but find that someone doesn't want them to know. I found this read exciting because of the action scenes, extremes hero goes to be able to see heroine and who doesn't want to read a dashing gentleman save a heroine :) There is strong chemistry between H/h and he is very romantic at times when thinking/describing her. However, all love scenes are behind closed doors. Most is heavy petting and kisses. It is a safe reads. Hero is loyal but his promiscuous past does come several times up. He makes sure heroine knows he only wants her several times. I believed him, because of the extremes he goes to win her over.

Highly recommend this read!

This is one of the better Chesney's of the few I have read. The characters are appealing, especially Lord Harry Danger who is a delight. The book is very short however and would be much better longer and more developed. I enjoyed reading it though, even if the pleasure only lasted a few hours!
