Six years ago Hallie's grandfather the Admiral double-crossed Quade and had him court-martialed. Now the Admiral needs him to bring his runaway granddaughter home.
Hallie has no intention of cooperating and losing her freedom. Quade has no intention of losing his pardon -- or his life.
Hallie's sassy mouth and long legs put Quade into overdrive. The only thing more dangerous than trying to outfox the Admiral is keeping his hands off Hallie...and learning to trust his heart.
THE PREQUEL TO AFTERSHOCK
"Lynn Michaels brings us action-packed adventure...Wonderful energy between these tough, but tender lovers. A marvelous read!" -- Romantic Times Magazine
EXCERPT:
Elvis and the weepy trombones on the sound system faded away. Quade lifted his hand from the small of her back.
"Where have you seen him?"
"I don't remember." Hallie about-faced on one two-inch suede heel. Quade's hand clamped around her right elbow.
"Don't screw with me, tough girl." He locked his hip against her thigh and wove a path through the couples starting to dance to the Righteous Brothers. "Where have you seen him?"
"I don't remember. You're hurting me."
"Not yet I'm not." Quade lifted her off the dance floor, swung her around and backed her against a support column on one of the spiral staircases. He could have slammed her into it hard enough to crush a couple of vertebrae, looked like he wanted to, but didn't.
So much for diversions, Hallie thought, as he let go of her elbow and spread his hands above her shoulders on the backside of one of the risers. "Playtime is over. Ferguson came out of his coma this morning, said to the nurse, 'Oh, my God, it's Conan the Barbarian.' Then he died."
A shiver and the vibration of someone starting down the staircase raced each other up Hallie's spine. The cold wrought-iron burned like dry ice on the back of her neck, but felt about fifty degrees warmer than Quade's eyes looked as he glanced up, then quickly bent his head and buried his lips beneath her upturned jaw.
There was a trill of laughter, the spiky edge of a handkerchief hemline skimmed over her hair. Beneath Quade's granite mouth Hallie felt her pulse beat wildly, clenched her teeth and closed her eyes. She opened them when the vibration and the clanking footsteps passed and Quade raised his head.
"Don't ever lie to me ever again," he said. "You know what I am and what I can do to you if you piss me off one more time. I'm going to kiss you now and you're going to let me. I'll step a little to the right while I'm at it, so you'll be able to see Conan but he won't be able to see you.
"Then we'll walk to the bar. By the time we get there you'll remember where and when you've seen him. If not, I'll let him have you. What's left when he's finished, I'll scrape up in a pillowcase and take home to your grandfather. Understand?"
Hallie nodded. "It's all coming back to me," she said shakily. She'd known all along where and when she'd seen Conan, but now she remembered how easy it had been to get away from Middleburg.
And at last she understood why.

Because honor never goes out of style
By feather boa
There is a reason this book is on my keeper shelf! Take Ellison Quade, a tough guy who played by the rules until he was betrayed and have him fall in love with the one woman who could give him back everything he lost--if he just betrays her. Hallie Stockton just wants to move forward with her life and finds herself falling in love with the one man who can drag her back into a nightmare. Add a liberal dose of action and adventure and you have a book guaranteed to keep you turning the pages. That said, I should probably tell you not to read this book while cooking dinner--you will burn the pork chops!

Cat And Mouse Intrigue
By ladyhawk
I enjoyed Lynn Michaels "The Patriot." It's a definite page turner. Hallie Stockton plays for high stakes to live her own life, but it's filled with lies and deceptions. This is a romance, but so much more.
I recommend "The Patriot". Is Hallie the cat or the mouse?
Choose your side, fasten your seatbelt. This is definitely a thrill ride you don't want to miss!
