extremely poor print quality

First, my apologies to the authors. My comments are in regard to the extremely poor quality of the print in the book, and are NOT related to their intellectual contributions. I just purchased this book and the print quality is terrible!!! Pages look like they were printed on a cheap inkjet printer that was running out of ink. Streaky and hard to read. There is nowhere to complain about the quality of a product except within the individual product site. Shame on Springer for allowing such a poor quality product to bear their name.

About the Author
Stephen Mateo is originally from Toronto, Canada. He began his career as an actor, over twenty years ago, studying in Los Angeles. Stephen's acting career has been grounded in television and theater, landing co- starring roles on various sitcoms, and appearing Off-Broadway in the hit The Crumple Zone both in New York and Los Angeles. It was soon after that, that he decided to take hold of his career and began writing. Stephen wanted to write material that meant something to him, in a very personal way. In hopes that the stories would resonate with others, and encourage them to think about their own lives. He likes to develop characters that people relate to, or at least, can emotionally invest them selves in. Stephen's first attempt at this was a full-length screenplay titled, Dear John. Two things inspired him to write Dear John. First, he wanted to tell a story of love, to show people that the experience of finding love is no different, no matter whom you are. The second was freedom-the freedom to make our own decisions. Then Stephen decided to tell the story of Journey. Journey is a story of the lengths one will go to in search for freedom: the simultaneous desire to find our own place in the world, and the guilt we feel over separating ourselves from our family. I want to say to anyone who is reading this book is, "never give up on your dreams". This book is living proof that dreams do come true, not only for me the Author, but also for Tomas Castellano, the main character in this story. And if it weren't for his courage . . . there would be no JOURNEY.

Jouney - an amazing story!

I purchased this book not expecting a lot from it - new writer, first book. How good could it be - I thought. Let me tell you that I was unequivocally, 100% wrong!! Once I started reading, the story reached out, tugged at my heartstrings & wouldn't let go until I finished it. What an amazing, wonderful story! It made me cry several times & if I can say that about a book, it is awesome indeed.

Based on the life of Stephen Mateo's father, we are led from his childhood in the Canary Islands to the present day in the U.S. & Canada. Something his family was never aware of until the night before his 50th Wedding Anniversary. His journey shows his courage, his fortitude & his love of family but those are just words.

Do yourself a favor & buy this book - you can't go wrong & you won't be sorry. I'm so glad I went on this Journey!

Terrific Story

I thought "Journey" was a great summer read and have recommended it to others. Stephen Mateo's father gave him the gift of a wonderful, heartfelt and nail-biting true story that Stephen rendered beautifully on the page. I was impressed with the way Stephen evoked the Canary Islands and a time and place that was so specific to his father's own journey. I didn't know as much as I thought I knew about Franco's rule, and this book did a great job of filling in the blanks. Too, the pace of the book was great as I read from chapter to chapter and marveled at the travails his father went through as he left his family for a new life. I am so glad I read the book and can't wait for the movie version to be produced. Bravo, Stephen!

A wonderful Journey

Journey is a phenomenal adventure about a boy and his escape from the tyranny of the Francisco Franco dictatorship of the Canary Islands in the 1940's. The story also dives into issues of family, friendship, romance, and immigration. What I loved the most about Journey was how incredibly visual the story was. While reading it, I was able to see the tale unfold, as if a movie was playing in my mind. It was an easy read, and once I started, I was not able to put it down from cover to cover, reading the book in its entirety in just over 3 ½ hours. I HIGHLY recommend Journey for anyone who loves a good adventure story. I really loved it!

A wonderful trip through Ireland of 80+ years ago

I own a very old copy of this- perhaps even a first edition- that is well worn and loved from reading it again and again over the last 30-some years I have owned it. This is a wonderful trip through Ireland of the early 20th century, a calmer time, in some respects, and early days of Irish freedom. You visit with the author the Guniess brewery (and hear some hysterical stories by the employees about other visitors!), you stay overnight at the Mt.Melleray monastery, and spend time on the Curraugh watching beautiful thoroubred horses. You come to know the Irish people in ways that the average tourist does not, sharing their homes, their meals...and even their mysterious moonshine, poteen.^_^

While reading this book, you will find yourself relaxing and enjoying the surroundings, and living the life and legends of Ireland of that time, and when the book is finished, you will find yourself mourning that this is a bygone era. But it is a book that should have a place on the shelf of anyone who has any interest in Ireland and the Celtic peoples.

What matters

H.V. Morton was one of the finest travel writers of his day. He is cosmopolitan and sophisticated with a solid understanding of history. His commentary is fascinating because he concentrates on his encounters with the people of the region he is visiting. His opinions are informed not only by cultural references and psychological insight, but mostly by an abiding respect and love for the characters he meets. He is a student of the human drama and a feeling participant in the life of those he encounters, however briefly. Therein lies much of the poignancy and attraction of his works. In short, he loves to witness to the "soul" in people. His books are affecting on a deeply human level. Oh, and did I mention, his writing is marvelous?

Ah! Love...

This is a true story of a love affair.

It is a love at first sight for Morton as he visits Saorstát Éireann and hears the mysterious "silent music of the land" as he visits Connemara, Glengariff and the Curragh and Eire's troubled history. Fascination with the Gaelic tongue induces a longing to understand it more, to be able to sing back an answering verse to the real songs he hears from behind the stone walls.

The country wins Morton's heart rapidly, as do the people and their intense sense of place. Even the animals enchant ...including a curious cow who joins a wake...and the " hens who are all over the world an excitable, suicidal people".

By the end of his book H.V. is so in love with Ireland, and feels so desperately his need to communicate his ardor, and share it with the reader, that he becomes intensely lyrical and even starts to adds a Gaelic lilt to his prose!

To read it is to love it too!

OMG OMG OMG!!!!

I began reading at the same time as everyone else, but I picked up one of my mother's Harlequin's when I was about 9 and became hooked. I soaked up every story I could read, I didn't care how many chapters it was or who wrote it, what the cover looked like, or what the synopsis said. I had one goal with every book I picked up, I just wanted it to take me to another world. Because I read so much I have always been able to pretty much figure out what is most likely going to happen at the end of each book. Well let me tell you what happened when I read this book.

My review:

In the beginning I was excited by what happened and wanted to know what happened next. This is what happens when you get sucked inside. Then I felt sympathy, confusion and then some awe. When I got closer to the end of the book it went something like this:

Really?? OMG! *clicking page* (so excited) *dances in wheel chair*

No Way! *clicking page* Holy crap it did happen! (even more excited)

*gulp* Omg! She did not just do that!

Then I read the last chapter and it goes something like this:

WTF???? * clicks back several pages* ( did I miss something??)

WTF???? and I just continued to say this for several hours after I read it.

I have never been fooled by a book. Not ever, until now!

The book itself was amazing, I hung onto every word and was so immersed in the story that I forgot to go to sleep. It was the first time I ever felt the need to immediately re-read a book to check if I missed some clues somewhere. So I read the book three times before finally passing out from exhaustion.

I have rated this 5 out of 5 for very obvious reasons and if I could rate it higher I would!

Lifeboat by A. B. Shepherd

Ok to begin with, when I started this book I had my self convinced it was going to be another nautical story. How wrong I was. The first few chapters were a time jump from one character to another and set up the entire book. I have never in all my life read a book as captivating as this one is. I have read a ton of books in my life at my age. This is a amazingly written sci fi story and it makes you think of what just might happen in real life.

In this book the main characters are Cassie, Rhys and Seamus. These three end up in such a twist of life events that you have to keep reading and not skip a few pages or even paragraphs to see what is going on next even if the temptation is there at all time.
Without giving anything away, these people are convinced of a life changing event and set up in new homes to live their lives.

Things start happening and they are all scared and confused as to why. No one seems to have any answers so they just keep trying to continue with living on a day to day basis
I would recommend this book to everyone because it is so well written and thought out. You will not be able to stop reading it once you get into it. In fact I read all day yesterday and did absolutely nothing else not even answer the phone.
Thank you so much to A.B Shepherd, author, for sending me a free book for an honest review. I so totally loved this book that I am going to purchase a hard copy for my personal library. Hope you all enjoy this story as much as I did. I want to read more books by this author from now on.

HOLY TOLEDO BATMAN!

Lifeboat is a book where a 1000 people were rescued, by aliens, because Earth has been destroyed by the ultimate natural disasters, and I mean in the epic proportions too. Cass, a lonley woman who had lost what meant most to her in her life, had become obsessed with UFO's after seeing one, a few years after the death of her husband and son. She had eventually came to meet up with two UFOlogists by the names of Rhys and Graham. One night while out waiting to see if they would encounter a UFO, Cass & Rhys were taken by aliens, and put on a ship called "Lifeboat". Here they were prepared with the 998 other people who were "saved" to live life on new earth, (earth 500 years later).

Things are just too fabulous when they all first arrive, until Cass and Seamus another survivor set out to make trades at other villages that were set up on the land. Things are awry and Cass and the others try to figure out what's going on, but as they continue to search for answers more and more people mysteriously disappear.

This book is not what I expected at all. At first it was slightly confusing with all the flip flopping around, then it really gets into the whole of the story, and wow it's amazing. With an ending you'd never expected. I must say I was just a little hesitant on reading this, since it's not my usual read, but I'm glad I was contacted, and I'm glad I read it.

Ok, I bought it thinking it would be a good user manual. It is just a 3/8" thick overview of the freeware version with a distribution CD. Waste of money. You can print out the manual and download the package online.

It gets the job done

I had wanted to learn to use Eagle to create PC boards for a long time, but never quite got around to finding a suitable tutorial and slogging through it. I was excited to see the publication announcement for this book, decided to give it a try, and I'm reasonably glad that I did.

In general, the book is readable and appropriate to the task of familiarizing the reader with the basic operation of Eagle - both for creating schematics and for creating associated PC boards. The text is informative and mostly well organized and the illustrations are plentiful and mostly useful. While there were occasional parts of the text that were confusing, with some of the descriptions not completely matching the actual behavior of the software (the 'lite' edition of which was conveniently included on the accompanying CD, for Windows, Mac and Linux), and despite some of the English language constructs being a bit odd ('to action' an on-screen button, for example), and while the book would have greatly benefited if the publisher had done a bit more proofreading prior to publication, and while it would have been nice if they had included an index, my overall assessment is that the book adequately prepared me to start using Eagle on my own. I could hardly have asked for more.

One of the 2 books you need to learn CadSoft's Eagle

So here's the deal. I've been a circuit designer for the better part of 20+ years. I was an OrCAD person until it was bought and became too expensive for home/hobby use. I wanted something which was supported, professional, and didn't cost a fortune to use. Eagle fit the bill. It has it's shortcomings in terms of features, but it is very powerful and can be used for professional circuit board layout. Having said that, you need documentation allowing one to learn the software and also use as a reference. Unfortunately to date, no one book fits the bill. There is a tremendous amount of information on YouTube regarding Eagle, but sometimes you just want a book. This books, Eagle V6 by Mitchel Duncan is OK. It has all the information you need, does an excellent job explaining the PCB fabrication process and also the DRC features of the program, but it is a very dry and technical read. It is organized more as a reference manual, and it is useful for that purpose. This book, by itself, is not a very good tutorial. I came across Simon Monk's book, "Make Your Own PCBs with Eagle", and it is an easy read and can be used as a tutorial. It's not as complete, technically, as "Eagle V6", but does a good job explaining how to use the program to make the circuit boards you want. As such, I use both of these books all the time when I'm creating a schematic and layout. Together, these two books, in my opinion, are all you need to learn and use Eagle.

About the Author
Harvey Lee Snyder earned a BA in Music at Columbia College, New York, then worked in various capacities for the Columbia Record Club, Mercury and Philips Records, and Mills Music. For the record club he wrote an illustrated history of American popular music, and he wrote album liner notes for Columbia, Philips. Spoken Arts, and Caedmon records. More recently he was a consultant for several direct-marketing companies. In retirement he took up writing full-time and returned to his roots in music. Afternoon of a Faun is his first published book.

What fun!

Who knew a book about classical music could be so much fun? It reads like a novel (and at times like a scandal sheet) and brings the lay person in on the magic of Debussy's music and his enormous contribution to the arts.

This book is beautifully written, and I was especially entranced by the descriptions of the music. I could almost hear the performances. The drama of Debussy's romantic and musical life is compelling. The humor is unexpected and terrific.

I had never read a book about music. I didn’t know Afternoon of a Faun, either the book by Mallarme or the music by Debussy. And, I’m embarrassed to admit how little I knew about the late 19th century, the Belle Epoque. But when I started to read the Prelude of Snyder’s Afternoon of a Faun: How Debussy Created a new Music for the Modern World I became hooked. The author has written a spellbinder. Was I really holding my breath to find out how the Faun would be received by its French audience over a hundred years ago? This was only the first in many , many times that I couldn’t put this book down. And in the process of this great enjoyment I have not only learned a great deal about Debussy and his new music, and of a host of other fascinating musicians and literary figures, but also of a an era that is now wonderfully alive in my imagination. Thank you Mr. Snyder for filling in such important gaps in my education and doing it in such a thoroughly entertaining way. I love this book.

Well-Written, Great Alpha/Beta/Omega Romance

This second book was infinitely better than the first, coming a lot closer to the trademark Lia Cooper magic. ;) The politics and plot were skilfully woven in with the romance, with both being interesting and well done.

This book had editing errors, like the first, although not as many. The author clearly needs better beta [ha! pun!] readers.

And of course, we finally get to see the alpha/omega dynamics in full play. I kind of almost wish we had seen it before now, not necessarily w/the main chars, but to see it influence their culture more strongly than just "alphas are aggressive and omegas the thinkers." Like I wish we had seen someone go into heat before now, so we know how things play out.

Overall I'm much happier with this book than the first, and am excited to read the third.

Not as good as the first, but..

The first book in this series, The Omega Prince, was wonderful. Unfortunately Lia had a hiatus in her writing of this book. This resulted in her mentally moving on to the next book, The Honorable Beta, and to some extent changing the personality of certain characters. The effect is somewhat choppy on the plot. However, if you continue the series, you should read this book, or you will miss things. The Honorable Beta,the next one is much more up to Lia's usual standards. There are a few "edit by spellcheck" errors, but except for the replacement of "heeling" with "healing" when referring to riding a horse, it does not really interrupt the flow of the story.

Could Be Better

I read books 1-4 back to back so these comments apply to all
This is a series and must be read in order. None of the books end with a resolution but there are no cliffhangers; they just stop, to be picked up in the next release. I love the characters and storyline but the proofing is non-existent and it's bad enough to detract from the story, wrong words, missing words, nonsensical sentences. It's painful to read a great story that's written with such carelessness but I'll keep reading as new installments come out because the story is that good.
