Wonderfully lucid guide to an exciting, always changing field!

Outstanding coverage of the most important aspects of Microbiology, which is mastered, will allow the reader to pursue advanced topics and read and understand original articles published in top peer-reviewed journals. Usually these books are prohibitively expensive but I purchased mine for 70% off. One of the best all-time deals. The pictures, graphs, charts and visual aids are terrific. My only wish is that the book came with a CD-Rom so that I can review physiology on my lap top. Nonetheless, there's a good reason this is such a popular book and it is worth getting the latest edition. (Unlike say math, there have been so many new startling empirical results given the latest technological innovations and methedological techniques that seem to emerge almost exponentially every few months, that having the latest edition in this field can make a huge difference. Things are somewhat different for sub-fields such as Bacteriology and Virology which are also rapidly changing, but these are sub-areas within Microbiology as a whole so that's why there are overall, ,more startling changes and an up=to-date textbook is important like this one).
